San Francisco Pride began in 1970 as a march and "gay-in" to commemorate the Stonewall Riots and has since grown into a major annual celebration. It started with a march down Polk Street and a gathering in Golden Gate Park, evolving from "Christopher Street West" to "Gay Freedom Day" and eventually, the San Francisco Lesbian Gay Bisexual Transgender Pride Celebration. The event has become a symbol of LGBTQ+ dignity, freedom, and resistance against oppression.
